SAME SHIP DIFFERENT DAY: Regent Seven Seas Voyager's 2011 World Cruise: The Rising Dragon

Our second overnight in Hong Kong featured another special World Cruise Event. This one was called “The Rising Dragon” and it was delightful! We gathered our world cruisers and took them by bus under the bay to the Four Seasons Hotel located on Hong Kong side.

Several guests looked especially great dressed in their Chinese attire as the event began with a private cocktail party.

There was music, a fortune teller, a calligraphy artist creating personalized works on fans, a man cutting out Chinese characters and a man writing down information about the year your were born (i.e. Year of the Pig – That’s me – It figures!).

It was fun and our guests really got into it. They also got into the drinks as the Dom Perignon was flowing freely.

Then it was time to enter the ballroom which looked beautiful all in red with a big red banner on the stage to welcome us. The hotel did a very nice job with dinner and Dana and I enjoyed the company of six of our guests.

Dinners out are always a bit of a concern at these special events because the standards of the ship are so high it is often difficult to reproduce the same quality, even at the Four Seasons. But this dinner went over quite well.

During the dinner and especially at the end of it we were entertained by several acrobatic performers. They started off with some talented kids doing all sorts of stuff.

Then a lady performed some spinning and twirling maneuvers. There was a contortionist who was quite cute and clever.

My favorite was a man who, of all things, threw chopsticks like darts at a board. They landed so hard they stuck in the board. Then the last three he threw right through the same hole! That was amazing!

The final act performed something from a famous Chinese opera where he keeps changing masks with a wave of his cloak – Maybe 25 in all. I have seen a variation of this before but he was quite good.
